This war was fucking horrible, don't get me wrong they all are, but this one just has an extra layer of depression added into it, maybe is from the poor quality in the videos and the always grey sky at Chechenya combat footage or the faces of the young unmotivated conscrips or even the many videos of the fate of Russians POW Who were later sold as snuff, shit, everything about this one war is just depressing
Not to mention that only a few years prior to this war, the Afghan war ended, and not only that but the whole country fell apart. Many Afghan vets probably also fought in Chechnya as well. Basically the whole 90s in Russia were devastating and, no wonder, why many young people turned to drugs and alcoholism. Also, Russian economy was basically shattered after the fall of the USSR. Oligarchs would grab everything for themselves, while the common people were left to struggle.
